Love, Left, Alone {Pt. 4}Numb. Black. Silent.
This was all Cupid could feel or think of. It was all he heard, all he saw, all he thought of.
Vinson was gone. After he'd left the throne room, Cupid had lingered there, stunned. Afraid. He'd whimpered, "come back," but it was too late. He was alone.
He hadn't had much time to think, however, and was soon swept away by the festivities. He rushed through each and every one of them, and because of this spilled some wine on the table cloth. No one noticed, apparently, and that was good. Quickly, quickly, quickly: he finished up his duties, from his coronation to the blessing of the new soldiers.
His duties had began immediately.
He had remembered when Mikael had done it for him, and copied him precisely. Nervous, almost stumbling. But he had done it. He had done it. Quickly.
Without even changing out of his robes, the first thing Cupid did was rush to Vinson's room.
Gone.
He went to Mikael's room.
Empty.
Back to Vinson's room.
Empty.
With each pacing, back and forth,
Love, Left, Alone {Pt. 3}"Was it a nightmare?"

Cupid lay awake in bed, as he had been the whole night, as if standing vigil. It wasn't that he didn't want to sleep. It felt like he couldn't. Shouldn't.
Something amazing had just happened. It wasn't right to sleep.
He hadn't slept for the past three days. It had all happened so, so fast.
"I don't know.
"Maybe it was a dream.. Maybe it is a dream.
"If I go to sleep, I'll wake up.
"...mn..."
For the whole night he'd watched the shadows dancing behind his eyes, and when the Sun began to rise he switched to watching its light creep across the floor. When, at last, its fingers brushed his bed, he got out of bed and inspected the bandages on his hands. To cover up the piercings of the thorns. From... from that day.
"That day"?
It sounded so far away...
The young boy washed his face. Put on his clothes. Wore his socks. Then his shoes.
Then, like a lifeless shell, ironic as it was, he walked out of his room.
Not too far down the hallway, he stop
