Innocent and devoted to the Lord, God, Kristoph -- despite being an Impure Angel -- was accepted into the ranks of the Heavenly, within the mercies of God. He was given somewhat special treatment, being exclusively involved in the other Angelings' games and such.

God found an excuse to banish Kristoph to the Spiral of Despair(a barren land where none would find peace) when he messed up and, instead of answering a prayer to heal a *blind boy, almost killed him instead. Kristoph, lucky enough to not have been there long enough to die of insanity, was baited by Max, and followed him through a portal to Lakvia. There, he bonded with the young prince, discovered his troubles, and assassinated his abusive mother. Lakvia was glad for what he did, and Max's supporters effectively hailed him a hero. Having murdered out of his free will, Kristoph had broken the Angel's pact and subsequently lost his Halo, the sight in his right eye, and a fair amount of his power.

In a war between Lakvia and Rivvian(a neighbouring kingdom), Kristoph killed more than he ever had before, with little or no discrimination: for that is war. And for that, his blind eye began to pang in pain. To prevent himself from stabbing it out himself, Max presented Kristoph with a magically-enhanced eyepatch that worked to shield his eye. It can only be removed by Max's hand or by his consent. In addition, Kristoph's right arm was blown off clean just below the elbow. For a time, his arm was little more than a stump that ended in bandages, until he managed to secure a mechanized prosthetic that doubled as a gun from a custom weapons dealer.

Kristoph has to adopt glasses for his good left eye, which has spoilt from reading to much. He very readily refused the idea of a monocle, immediately taking a distaste to their tackiness. When he was 20 years old, Kristoph aspired to become the Captain of Guard to improve security measures around Max, who had gained more enemies since moving up in rank to become 2nd-in-line to the throne of Lakvia. However, in order to take this placing in the Royal Guard, Kristoph was required to learn to use a sword, as was the traditional weapon of the Guardsmen. Other options included the maul, the mace, the morning star and several other weapons. Kristoph found he excelled the most in his swordsmanship, and used this newfound skill to become the Captain of the Guard by the time he was 26.
Of course, that came with losing his arm, suffering pain in his eye, and getting banished from his home...land(?).
